I've been busy

I would love to say that I haven't blogged because I have been off on some fabulous tropical vacation. But as we all know, I've just been busy with life. I've had projects going like crazy (I love a good project to keep my mind off the federal disaster that my house has become.)
But now that my mom is an avid blog-stalker I feel I have to update more often. So, here's my usual update post. I know you love them! Who doesn't love an abridged version?

I made St. Patrick's Day outfits for the kids. The pesky leprechaun left them along with a mess and some treats. They loved that.

I covered 48 eggs with pages from an old book and made a wreath and a couple nests

I made a baby quilt.

Ewan is 6 months old and very impatient to start crawling.

Hunter and Grandpa (mostly grandpa) made a leprechaun trap for his school's simple machines project.

Red could keep a hundred people busy with his energy. Netflix and nickjr.com has helped me keep my sanity.

April fools dinner. Pound cake "grilled cheese sandwich", meatloaf and mashed potatoes "cupcake" and regular old salad (I couldn't think of a way to play with that without messing it up)

Hunter ate his "grilled cheese sandwich" without saying a word. Then as he stuck his fork into his "cupcake" he said "eww...it looks like cat food!" Classic

I spent all day making natural egg dyes only to have them not work (I was using brown eggs, I ended up with...brown eggs) so we added A LOT of food coloring and ended up with lots of maroon and dark brown eggs

I made the kids Easter outfits. I made up my own pattern for the boys ties and I LOVED them!

We enjoyed spring break but bummed that we spent the whole week at home. I NEED to go camping soon!

We went to Kangaroo Zoo, McDonalds (Cassia's one request), the aquarium, Gateway fountains, and a short 10 minutes at the planetarium.

I made Cassia a dress from an old t-shirt and $2 worth of fabric.

Oh, and I've spent a lot of time dealing with poop. Solid foods kinda suck!

Now that it's all written down it doesn't sound like much. But somehow it has all taken a lot of time and energy! Next post maybe I'll show off my ongoing project: my craft room, and the kids rooms and closets. Someday I hope to have them organized (HA!)

Cassia's Birthday Party

Yesterday we celebrated Cassia's 7th birthday with an art party. She loves to do anything artistic so she had a great time. She invited lots of friends from both the neighborhood and her class at school. I think if I did this party over again, I would have more games and less art. Some of the kids were not as into it as Cassia was. We did spiralgraphs, marble painting (my favorite, I think I have some budding Jackson Pollocks on my hands!), acrylic on canvas, pastels, and shaving cream art. What a day, but I am glad it's over! Birthday parties wear me out.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASSIA!

I'm secretly very proud of this cake. I've never worked with fondant before and was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked out!

Cassia being a poser by the snacks

I'm so grateful for my mom's help! I couldn't have done it without her!

Marble art. Notice Red's. He dumped almost the whole bottle of green paint on it. I still don't think it's dry almost 24 hours later!

Shaving cream art. This was a last minute addition when I noticed that we were cruising through the other projects too fast. I'm glad Wal-Mart is so close!

Hunter's marble art. I am going to frame them! I love it!

Happy Valentines Day

We're not huge Valentines people at our house. Well, some of us aren't. We keep things simple. So, I thought I would use my blog as a cheap and low-key way to express my love to Kirk. Bear with me.
Kirk, Thank you for 11 1/2 great years! Thank you for standing by me through the kitchen experiments, the decorating choices, the money problems, the childbirth, the fad diets, the fights, the late night sneezing fits, the cancer, washing machine mishaps, the bossiness, the titty twisters, and all the other pains I've put you through. You are my soul mate and I thank God every day that you are by my side and that you enjoy being there (or at least fake it well). I can't wait till I can give you a big hug and a kiss again. I love you Stubbi.

An AH-HA moment

I've always felt that most people probably see me as an underachiever. I'm fine with it. I agree for the most part. I have always had big plans for myself but I keep putting them off saying I will do them soon and then feel guilty that I've done so little. I see people in my ward that are doing all these things that make me feel like I'm so far behind. I have friends that have gone back to school, graduated and have now applied for masters programs. I have friends that are hyper-organized and work out daily. I have friends that have 5 kids, a full time job and still manage to seem happy and relaxed. You name it I have a friend that can do it. Then, there's me. I want to go back to school, I want to start my own Catering business, I want to be a photographer, I want to be a glass blower, I want to be on a roller derby team, and I want to be a great mom. All these things stress me out on a daily basis. Then the other morning while blog-stalking while feeding Ewan, I read this.

AH-HA!

Why should I feel guilty not doing all of these things NOW? I am so blessed and happy to have such wonderful kids and a husband that makes it possible for me to put off everything else and just be their mom. So I've decided to be happy with where I am. To all of you over-achievers out there, more power to ya. I'm going to be happy just being a mom.
